JACKSON COUNTY, Ind. — A Jackson County sheriff’s deputy was shot two times while responding to a report of a suspicious person.
WHAS 11 reports Officer Rick Meyer was ambushed while approaching suspect, Alexandrew Mullikin, who was siphoning gas. As Officer Meyer questioned and handcuffed him, a second suspect hiding under a bridge, Isiah Rogers, opened fire, hitting the officer twice.
“The one bullet was basically a clean-through, struck no bone, just through the officer, and, uh, the other one did go up through the officer and lodged in his clavicle,” Jackson County sheriff Michael Carothers said.
The officer returned fire, and shot one of the suspects in the arm, according to the report.
Both suspects were taken into custody.
Officer Rick Meyer was transported to the hospital and has been released.
