RANDLEMAN, NC — A vehicle chase between suspects in a larceny and Randleman Police ended with the suspect vehicle crashing into a utility pole Monday in Guilford County.
An internal investigation to determine if the officers involved acted appropriately will be conducted.
According to a press release from the Randleman Police Department, the incident began when officers were dispatched to Walmart, 1021 High Point St., at approximately 12:40 a.m. in reference to a larceny in progress by a male.
When officers arrived on the scene, they observed a white Nissan Sentra turning right onto High Point Street. The vehicle’s lights were off and the trunk was open. Officers saw a man in the front passenger seat attempting to hide and a woman driving the vehicle.
Officers activated their lights and sirens in an attempt to stop the vehicle, but the driver turned the lights on and continued driving, heading north on Interstate 73 toward Greensboro.
The suspect vehicle slowed as it reached Interstate 85 as the man and woman switched positions so that the male was driving. The vehicle continued north until turning left onto Coliseum Boulevard, taking another left onto Gate City Boulevard and turning right onto Interstate 40 West.
The pursuit continued onto Wendover Avenue and N.C. 68 until the vehicle took a right onto Gallimore Dairy Road.
As the vehicle approached the intersection of Gallimore Dairy Road and South Chimney Rock Road, it began to swerve in the roadway, the release stated. The vehicle drove off the left side of the road, striking a utility pole.
Both suspects were taken to local hospitals with non-life threatening injuries.
Items stolen were located in the vehicle, including a Samsung Blu-Ray player, a television and seven packages of women’s underwear.
