GLENARDEN, Md. — A man who intentionally crushed two Maryland police cruisers with a dump truck has been charged with attempted murder of police officers.
WTOP reports 31-year-old Gene Thomas Brandon, Jr., who has a history of mental illness, was delusional at the time of the attack and believed his brother had been shot in Washington, D.C.
Brandon had reportedly failed to take his prescription medication.
The officers narrowly escaped injury in the Wednesday attack by running out of the dump truck’s path. Brandon smashed into the cruisers after getting into a verbal confrontation with the pair.
The suspect then jumped out of his truck and aggressively approached the officers, according to CBS DC, but was taken into custody without further incident.
Brandon faces two counts of attempted murder and two counts of first degree assault in connection to the incident.
