ALPHARETTA, Ga. — Dash cam video has been released of the April 2013 shooting of an officer during a traffic stop in Georgia.

NBC 11 reports Officer David Freeman was shot seven times after stopping suspect Curtis Hicks for an expired tag.

Hicks emptied his pistol on the officer, firing over a dozen shots at him.

Despite his wounds, Officer Freeman managed to radio for help while leaning on his patrol car.

According to WSB-TV, Hicks then led police from multiple departments on a pursuit that ended after he crashed his vehicle.

Hicks opened fire on the pursing officers, and was killed after police returned fire.

Police later found guns and ammo after searching Hicks’ home.

Hicks’ family later told police he was mentally ill and may have been on his way to murder one of them when he was stopped.

After a year of rehab and two surgeries, Officer Freeman has recovered from the incident, according to the report.
