HABERSHAM COUNTY, Ga. — Dash cam video captured a traffic stop that could have turned deadly for the officers involved.

Fox 5 reports police stopped 47-year-old Marshall Rice in October 2013 on suspicion of theft.

When Lt. Tonya Elrod approached the vehicle, the suspect stepped out and attempted to open fire.

Rice’s gun jammed, and another officer on the scene, Sgt. Greg Chastain, fired seven shots — striking the suspect twice before he was subdued.

“Not only did he put the gun to my head. Pull the trigger. He tried his best to clear the gun and tried to shoot me two more times after that while I was backing away. And if [Officer] Graham had not tackled him... and [Officer] Greg had not shot him, I would be dead,” Elrod told Fox 5.

In March, Elrod was cross-examined by Rice, who chose to represent himself in court as he faced charges. The prior felon was later sentenced to 70 years in prison.
