Jail using Twitter to track down unregistered sex offenders

INDIANAPOLIS — The Marion County Sheriff’s Department is finding social media to be another tool they can use in the search for missing sex offenders.

WISH TV reports that the Marion County Sex Offender Unit has a Twitter account, and they’re making good use of it.

They used the social media site to send out an image of nine people the sheriff’s department believes live in the county and are unregistered sex offenders.

If the unit receives a tweet about the picture, they will investigate it. If it turns out that the offender is living outside the county, they will notify other police agencies.
