April 12 - 18-month-old Aiden Naquin is shot in the head while strapped in an infant car seat in Houston. Five MS-13 members are arrested in connection to the crime.

March 28 - The Washington Times reports MS-13 members are being sent to the Mexican border to intimidate the Minutemen, a group of American volunteers patrolling the Mexico-American border for illegal immigrants attempting to cross the border.

Sept. 28 - The Washington Times reports al Qaeda cell leader Adnan G. El Shukrijumah was seen in July meeting with top MS-13 members in Honduras. The Times said Shukrijumah is believed to be inlisting the aid of MS-13 and their smuggling routes that run through Mexico to the United States.

Aug. 29 - A woman is stabbed 41 times and dragged onto the sidewalk in front of her apartment complex before the assailant cut the letters “MS” into her thigh and stomped on her head. Police have charged Franklin Mancer-Herrera of Honduras with the crime.

May 10 – In one of the gang’s most infamous incidents, members of MS-13 nearly hack off the fingers of a 16-year-old member of a rival gang, South Side Locos, in Virginia. Legislators in that state have added machetes to a list of weapons that cannot be concealed.

July 13 - Brenda Paz, 17 and pregnant, is stabbed and killed by 4 MS-13 members near the Shenandoah River in Virginia because she was supposed to testify against a MS-13 member in his murder case.

Salvadoran guerrillas immigrate to the United States, specifically to Los Angeles, after a long civil war in their country. They begin MS-13 in an attempt to defend themselves from Mexican gang members in their neighborhoods.
