CINCINNATI — Dash cam footage has been released capturing police as they fatally shoot two pit bulls brutally attacking a 6-year-old girl.
WCPO reports that Cincinnati police responded to a call of a “pit bull eating a baby” Wednesday evening.
When officers arrived, they immediately rushed to the girl’s aid and opened fire on the attacking dogs, killing them.
“I don’t want to get too graphic, but I saw the brown dog, which was the bigger of the two dogs, and he had the girl’s head in his mouth. He was slinging it around, thrashing his head back and forth with her in his mouth,” said Officer Kyle Strunk, who has had difficulty sleeping since responding to the attack.
6-year-old Zainabou Drame remains in critical condition at a local hospital following the attack, with severe head and neck injuries.
“They grabbed her on the side of the jaw and basically ripped her jaw out,” said Gina Tyus, Zainabou’s aunt.
Fox 19 reports that the dogs’ owner, 24-year-old Zontae Irby, was arrested Thursday. After a search of his home, he was charged with weapons under disability, drug abuse and drug trafficking. Charges related to the dog attack are pending.
