CASA GRANDE, Ariz. — Four people were killed and 7 others hurt when an SUV being chased by the U.S. Border Patrol crashed in an Arizona farm town south of Phoenix.

Casa Grande police spokesman officer Thomas Anderson says border and Homeland Security agents spotted two vehicles driving together early Wednesday in the remote area frequently used as a smuggling route. When agents tried to stop them, the SUV sped into town.

A police officer then saw the SUV crash into a yard.

Anderson says three people died at the scene and another at a hospital. Five others were hospitalized with serious injuries and two with lesser injuries. All but the driver are suspected illegal immigrants.

Casa Grande is about 50 miles south of Phoenix.
