Officers paid for the new bikes and helmets out of their own wallets

HILLSBOROUGH, N.C. — While responding to a report of breaking and entering earlier this week, Hillsborough police discovered an opportunity for positive impact in their community.

According to WNCN, when officers arrived, they began a conversation with a group of local boys.

“They started talking about bicycles, and saying ‘my bicycle was stolen’”, Hillsborough Officer Danotric Nash said.

After listening and talking more with the boys, the officers left to answer more calls in the area.

But later, the officers returned with four new bikes and helmets, all paid for out of their own wallets.

“Seeing their reactions was priceless,” said Officer John Kempf. “These kids, we see them on a daily basis.. and when you see a need that needs to be filled -- that’s our job. If we’re called to do that, that’s what we’ll do.”

The officers hope that by creating this friendship, the boys will grow up having a postive connection with police.
