COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. — A retired Rhode Island officer came to the aid of a fellow officer who was under attack.
The unnamed Florida Highway Patrol trooper pulled over a car this week for speeding when the driver, who had a suspended license, switched places with the passenger, NBC 2 reported.
Officials told the news station that’s when the two men resisted arrest.
Former Rhode Island Officer Jeffrey Duclos was passing by and saw the trooper wrestling with one of the men on the side of the highway. He said his 30 years of training kicked in and he went to help.
“I think the kid saw me coming, so he basically surrendered,” Duclos said. “[If] other people are in the car. If they come out, he’s got a major problem.”
According to NBC 2, the men were in a rental car that was overdue for return. Both were taken into custody.
