BOCA RATON, Fla. — Police have created a free class for senior citizens to teach them how to defend themselves with something they always carry: a cane.
The weekly “Cane Fu” class will teach participants how to strike, jab and block potential hits with their canes, according to The Palm Beach Post.
Officers will also teach observation skills, how to avoid confrontation and how to correctly respond to suspicious and dangerous situations.
“All of our participants see improvements in balance, mobility, strength and most of all their confidence,” Officer Gwynne Friters said in a video posted on Facebook last year.
