SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador - El Salvador’s National Civil Police chief, Ricardo Meneses, said his country expects an FBI team to arrive soon to help in the fight against Mara street gangs here.
“The idea is to share with them all the information we have on organized crime ... and combat them (the gangs) not only here in El Salvador but everywhere,” Meneses told a local radio station.
President Tony Saca said he will ask U.S. authorities to “send the complete criminal record on these people, so that they don’t come here and add to the climate of violence.”
The Mara gangs developed among Central American youths in the United States, and those gang members are frequently deported back to countries like El Salvador with little or no warning.
