WATERBURY, Conn. — Waterbury police say a crash that killed a police dog last month was caused by a police officer who ran a stop sign.
However, police say the driver of the other car involved in the accident contributed to the crash because he was drunk and speeding.
The crash happened early on the morning of Nov. 10 at the intersection in the city’s Town Plot neighborhood.
Police say Officer Matthew Smith had just finished handling a routine call when he drove his police cruiser through the stop sign and collided with another car.
A 2-year-old German shepherd named Domino, who was Smith’s patrol partner and was trained in narcotics investigations, was killed.
