COAMO, Puerto Rico — An officer with the Puerto Rico Police Department was shot to death while trying to stop a group of suspects from robbing him.
According to ODMP, Agent Gilberto Colón-Leon was off-duty and driving a friend home June 13 when a group of subjects approached.
As the suspects attempted to rob the pair, Colón-Leon began to draw his service weapon. He was shot multiple times by the subjects, who fled the scene. The suspects were later captured and have been charged with murder.
Colón-Leon is survived by his wife and two children, according to the report.
