SAN DIEGO — A four-year-old boy living with autism got his wish recently when he was invited to the San Diego police station for a tour and a parade followed.

Alexander Sanchez approached a police officer last month in hopes of receiving a sticker and was disappointed to learn that the officer Sgt. Lem Siansonoy – had none.

Siansonoy promised to make it up to the boy, and showed up at his home weeks later with plenty of police swag, including stickers.

Alexander happened to be wearing his police officer Halloween costume when Siansonoy showed up something the boy’s aunt says he does often to feel comfortable.

“Part of what makes him feel safe and secure is dressing up,” his aunt told UT-San Diego. “He’s been dressing as a police officer for almost two years.”

Siansonoy decided on the spot to invite the boy and his family to tour the nearby police substation. Alexander rode his toy police motorcycle to the station, where he was greeted by 20 officers.

Several motorcycle officers then followed the boy on their motorcycles, lights flashing.

Alexander’s aunt said the experience greatly improved the boy’s spirits.

“This was so positive,” she said. “They made him feel noticed, and most of all, important. That they would give so much after such a small request, it’s really amazing.”
