NEW YORK — As kindness goes, this is a tough act to follow.

A city cop is being hailed as a hero for coming to the rescue of an Irish tourist who came up $20 short after waiting days in line for “Hamilton” tickets.

Geraldine McKenna thought she had blown her chance to see the hot Broadway musical until Officer Ricardo DiCandia pulled a $20 bill out of his pocket, and made her day.

“We were totally overjoyed when he opened his wallet and just handed us $20,” McKenna wrote in a note to the mayor’s office, according to the NYPD.

”My daughter was crying. It was without a doubt the best night and would not have been possible without Officer DiCandia’s generosity and kindness.”

According to the NYPD, which hailed DiCandia on social media Tuesday, McKenna had been standing in line for four days.

“He understood the magnitude of the emergency and pulled a 20 out of his pocket so she didn’t have to throw away her shot,” the NYPD said in a Facebook post.

Though McKenna was there to see the show, she used a title from a popular movie to describe her Broadway benefactor: An officer and a gentleman.
