SALT LAKE CITY — A former police officer made quick work Friday of a suspected bank robber in Sandy.
The 54-year-old man walked into a TransWest Credit Union about 4:10 p.m. and passed the teller a note asking for money, said Sgt. Jon Arnold in a press release.
The teller handed over an undisclosed amount of cash and the robber left the 10692 S. State St. location.
“Within seconds,” a man walked into the bank from another door, Arnold said. He was told the bank was closed because they’d just been robbed.
The customer, a former police officer who was legally armed, went outside and found the suspected robber within 75 yards of the bank based on a description from the teller. He held the man at gunpoint until officers arrived.
The suspect was booked into the Salt Lake County jail on suspicion of bank robbery.
