DELAND, Fla.- A man shot dead by DeLand police had been sought by detectives who say he fatally shot a pregnant woman last year.
Police shot Walter Bellamy Junior Saturday. Two officers approached Bellamy’s car to arrest him. But Bellamy drove off, dragging one of the officers with him.
Bellamy is accused of shooting Cassie Cook last year. Police say Cook and a friend hatched a scheme to rob their drug dealer. The plan went awry and a fight broke out between the three. Police say Bellamy shot Cook in the aorta.
Last month, police got the results of ballistics tests which linked Bellamy to the shooting.
