ELKHART, Ind. — An Elkhart police officer shot and wounded a man during a struggle inside a home that followed a chase.
Police Lt. Ed Windbigler says officers were pursuing the 27-year-old man by vehicle, then on foot. The shooting happened about 10 a.m. Thursday inside a duplex on the southwest side of the city about 20 miles east of South Bend.
Police say the man apparently selected the home at random as he tried to hide.
The man, whose name was not immediately released, was taken to Elkhart General Hospital. Windbigler said the man’s injuries were not life threatening.
Indiana State Police will investigate the shooting.
