WATERLOO, Iowa — On Wednesday, May 15, at approximately 1:06 AM, Waterloo Police responded to a 911 call regarding a man with a knife near E 4th Street and Sycamore Street in Waterloo.
During the incident four Waterloo Police officers responded and located a man with a knife in the 200 block of E 4th St. The man has since been identified as 39 year old Richard Anderson who had recently moved from Minnesota to Cedar Falls, Iowa. Anderson threatened officers with the knife and was shot by Officer Thomas Frein.
Anderson was taken to Allen Hospital before being transferred to University of Iowa Hospital & Clinics. Anderson has remained at the hospital and has continued to receive treatment for his injuries.
The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation initiated an investigation at the request of the Waterloo Police Department. The investigation is on-going at this time. Decisions regarding criminal charges, if any, will be made once the investigation is concluded and reviewed.
