NEW ORLEANS — New Orleans police arrested a 22-year-old man early Wednesday they said flashed a handgun and fired at officers last weekend.
Dewayne Sylvester was arrested about 7:30 a.m. at his home in the 200 block of North Robertson Street by the NOPD’s Violent Offender Warrant Squad, Officer Garry Flot said.
Sylvester allegedly fired at officers midday Saturday during a foot chase in the Iberville housing complex. Police said a group of 1st District Task Force officers approached a group of young men sitting on the steps of an abandoned building.
One man in the group began to run. Officers chased him, and the man pulled out a gun during the pursuit, police said. He fired at the officers and missed.
Detectives later identified Sylvester as the gunman. He was booked Wednesday with attempted murder of a police officer, weapons charges and resisting arrest, police said.
