NEW YORK- A Massachusetts man wanted for the stabbing death of a man in Rhode Island is listed in stable condition after being shot by police in New York.
Authorities say Joel Noonan of Avon crashed his S-U-V at a Manhattan intersection yesterday, injuring several pedestrians.
He was shot by a police officer after emerging from the vehicle with a knife.
Four other people were hospitalized after the incident, including a woman who is in critical condition.
Police in East Providence, Rhode Island accuse Noonan of fatally stabbing 37-year-old Steven Dowaglia to death during an argument Sunday night.
Detective Lieutenant Steven Kennedy says Noonan is possibly a distant cousin of Dowaglia’s wife, and that she may have been trying to help him with his drug problem.
