Owner of upscale Philli restaurant accused of assaulting parking officer

The Associated Press

PHILADELPHIA- The owner of an upscale Chinese restaurant was charged after punching a parking authority officer who was ticketing a delivery truck, police said.

Susanna Foo, 62, began punching the officer as she tried to ticket the truck, which was making a delivery to the Susanna Foo restaurant downtown, Officer Yolanda Dawkins said Saturday. The truck was in a “No Parking” zone outside the restaurant, police said.

Officers responded to the scene Friday and arrested Foo, who faces charges of aggravated assault, simple assault and recklessly endangering another person. Police said the parking officer was not seriously injured.

Authorities said Saturday that Foo had been released on her own recognizance. A message left at the restaurant by The Associated Press was not immediately returned.

Foo, who also has written well-known cookbooks including “Susanna Foo Fresh Inspiration,” has been an icon on the Philadelphia restaurant scene for more than 20 years. Her Center City location is known as being one of the first to introduce Asian-fusion-style cuisine before it became popular in American culture.

Another Foo restaurant, Suilan, is at the Borgata Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
