FORT LAUDERDALE — A Florida Highway Patrol trooper shot and killed a dog on Thursday afternoon after the dog attacked the trooper, according to an FHP spokesman.

The attack happened in the 1600 block of Northwest Ninth Avenue in Fort Lauderdale. The trooper was in the area helping another law enforcement agency, FHP spokesman Sgt. Mark Wysocky said.

The trooper is OK, Wysocky said. The dog, initially identified as a pit bull, was dead, he said.
