VANCOUVER, Wash. A police officer was wounded in a standoff with a man who barricaded himself inside a home and was believed to be holding another man hostage, authorities said.

Kim Kapp with the Vancouver Police Department says the incident began around 7:20 a.m. Wednesday when officers went to the home where a man was wanted for investigation of possession of a controlled substance and a stolen firearm.

One woman came out of the house, but investigators believed another man was being held inside. There were reports of multiple gun shots.

Cpl. Chris LeBlanc, with special operations for the police, was struck by one round under the arm. His injuries were not life-threatening, said Assistant Police Chief Mitch Barker.

A SWAT team and hostage negotiators were called to the scene. The Vancouver Bomb Squad and the FBI was also at the home.

Barker would not discuss tactical operations.

Residents in the area were being told to stay inside their homes. Nearby Mountain View High School, which was hosting summer camps, went into lockdown.

Several city blocks were closed and some homes in the area were evacuated during the standoff, police said.
