LANETT, Ala. — A man, authorities say, fired shots at Lanett, Ala., police Sunday morning is in The Medical Center after he was shot by an officer.
The man, whose name wasn’t released by Police Chief Teddy Morris, was wandering the 1700 block of 24th Street Southwest around 11:30 a.m. When officers responded, they saw him waving a revolver.
“The subject was told several times to put the gun down,” Morris said.
He didn’t, the chief added, and instead fired a number of shots at officers.
“One officer returned fire,” Morris said, adding that the man was hit in his lower back.
No officers were injured during the shooting.
Morris said the same man led someone to call officers earlier that morning about disturbing the peace about a mile away from the shooting.
The officer who shot the man was put on administrative duty with pay pending an investigation by the Alabama Bureau of Investigation, Morris said.
Second man sought in lounge shooting
Columbus police continue in their search for a second man they say was involved in the April 5 shooting at the Foxy Lady Lounge.
Dimarcus Shelling, 28, was shot multiple times in the head, stomach and leg after being involved in a fight at the Victory Drive strip club, police said. He was taken to The Medical Center in critical condition and wasn’t able to speak with officers for days.
Shelling has since been released from the hospital.
Police arrested Milton Randall, 34, of Decatur, Ga., and Clinton Lamar Scott, 29, of Jonesboro, Ga., said Sgt. Frank Massa. Both were taken into custody April 8, though Scott was able to make bond. Massa said Scott made bond before he was connected to the aggravated assault at the lounge..
