Many police officers I know are using the new Android phones. These phones are great resources for officers as you can look up pills you confiscate directly off one of the apps or you can just watch training videos on it.
Here’s the bad part about the Androids... the bad guys have them too. Different apps on these phones can tell the bad guy if someone around him is wired by picking up active transmitting signals, making undercover work even more dangerous than it already is. There is even a digital scale on the phone where they can weigh their drugs out. At my last agency, we got enough powder off a phone to help make a charge stick. Do you really think people or going to slap a piece of raw chicken on their smart phone?!
The smart-phones are great assets to police work, but they can also be assets to the bad guys, so just continue to be aware.
