BEAR, Del. — Wawa has launched a fundraising campaign for the family of Cpl. Stephen J. Ballard.
Ballard, 32, was fatally shot while approaching a suspicious vehicle Wednesday in a Wawa convenience store parking lot, the Associated Press reported. The suspect, Burgon Sealy Jr., was killed by police Thursday after a 20-hour standoff.
In addition to customer donations, Wawa is donating $50,000 to Ballard’s wife and daughter, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.
“Our hearts go out to the family and friends of Cpl. Ballard and the entire Delaware State Police family,” Wawa said in a statement.
