INDIANAPOLIS — A fallen officer’s daughter received a surprise by her father’s colleagues while taking prom photos.
Sierra Bradway and her date, Brock Spayd, the son of a Marion County Sheriff’s Captain, went to visit her dad’s gravesite before prom and were welcomed by their blue family, according to a press release.
Officer Rod Bradway was killed in September 2013 when he was ambushed while trying to save a woman screaming for help in an apartment, the Associated Press reported. The gunman died in a shootout with police.
“[Sierra] wanted to honor him and his memory by taking pictures at his gravesite,” the release said. “Knowing that he will be there in spirit and having some part in the event that she wanted him so badly to be present for.”

Spayd’s mom contacted the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department and Marion County Sheriff’s Office to arrange the surprise. Not expecting anyone except a photographer at the cemetery, Sierra stepped out to see dozens of officers from different agencies.
“Sierra, we know your father is smiling from Heaven,” the department wrote in a Facebook post. “Know that your Blue Line Family will always be here for you!”
