CHICAGO — A woman who was killed after another woman struck her with an SUV has been identified as a Chicago police officer’s daughter.
Tatyanna Lewis, 18, and Chynna Stapleton, 24, were arguing when Stapleton got into a vehicle, with a 13-year-old in the backseat, and chased Lewis down a sidewalk, the Chicago Tribune reported. Stapleton then struck Lewis with the SUV, ramming her repeatedly into a tree. Lewis was pronounced dead on the scene.
According to the Chicago Tribune, Stapleton allegedly made threats and spread rumors about Lewis on social media days before the fight. Lewis’ boyfriend, Tyshaun Page, has a baby with Stapleton and the fight was allegedly over Page.
Witness Brittany Patrick said the SUV jumped a curb and Stapleton drove through a front yard before striking Lewis.
“As soon as I looked out my window I saw a girl being rammed into the tree, and ran over and backed over and over again,” Patrick told NBC Chicago. “She hit my car, backing over the body and then backed back over the body and got away.”
Stapleton was detained shortly after fleeing when she was pulled over because officers noticed extensive damage to the SUV, tree bark on the front of the car and Stapleton’s bleeding face.
Stapleton is charged with first-degree murder.
