SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — A video capturing a struggle between an intoxicated suspect and an officer is under review by the Springfield Police Department.
According to the Springfield News-Leader, Officer Tomas Jordan and another officer were called to the scene to assist in getting “several combative people” out of a club on April 27.
Fearing for their safety as the crowd grew rowdy, officers called for backup.
It was then that Officer Tomas Jordan saw 24-year-old Courtney Lewis approach him and take a “fighting stance,” according to a police statement reported by the Springfield News-Leader.
The video shows Lewis being pushed to the ground after approaching the officer. Lewis quickly stands up and begins throwing punches at Officer Jordan.
Lewis was charged with second-degree assault of a law enforcement officer. Officer Jordan suffered a scratch and swelling on his face.
The department is currently reviewing use of force in the incident.
