TOLEDO, Ohio — A man was arrested early Tuesday in Central Toledo after he was accused of robbing two people at gunpoint and then shooting at Toledo police who returned fire, authorities said.
There were no reported injuries.
Trayvon Reynolds, 19, of 2056 North 14th St., was charged with aggravated robbery and three counts of felonious assault with weapon or ordnance and then arraigned on those charges in Toledo Municipal Court, with a preliminary hearing set for June 3. He was being held in the Lucas County jail in lieu of $800,000 bond.
A man robbed two people at gunpoint about 2 a.m. at Adams and 17th streets and fled. Among the items he took was a cell phone, officers said.
The victims then used another phone to call police. When officers arrived at the scene a short time later, the victims called the stolen cell phone number and arranged with the man to return the cell phone for cash, police said.
When the man approached the area a short time later, the detectives stepped out of their vehicle, with badges hanging from their neck chains, and verbally identified themselves as police officers, police said.
The man then started to flee and fired a handgun at the pursuing officers, at which time two detectives returned fire. The man continued to run and fired at them again, officers said.
A directed patrol officer then drove to the area to which the man was fleeing and arrested him, police said.
