WEBSTER, Mass. — Two dogs named “Chocolate Chip” and “Salami Mami” attacked a group of police officers during a drug bust in a Webster snack retail shop on March 5 , authorities said.

The drug bust was the result of a months-long investigation into the sale and distribution of drugs from the store. Webster police and FBI officers executed a search warrant at Mr. Exotix’s snack retail shop at 106R E. Main St. on March 5, the department said, and led to the arrests of two men from New York.

Four Webster police officers were hurt as a result of the resistance from the two men and the subsequent dog attacks, the department said. Three of the officers were taken to the University of Massachusetts Webster Hospital. They’ve since been released.

During the drug bust, the officers were met with “heavy resistance” from two men, the department said. They were also attacked by the two pit bulls whom they did not know about beforehand.

One of the dogs was shocked with a department Taser and officers tried to use pepper spray on the other, the department said.

After the drug bust, the dogs were taken by the Webster Animal Control, the Webster Police Department said. The canines weren’t up to date on their rabies vaccines, but they were “otherwise in good health and safe in our shelter.” Due to the dog bites, they’ll be subject to a 10-day quarantine.

Jeffrey Salley, 35, of Yonkers, New York, is facing six charges, while Gabriel Blandino, 30, of the Bronx faces nine, the department said. Most of the charges are related to guns and drugs.
