Elkton, Ky. - Three Todd County men were charged with attempted murder after a shot was fired at two Kentucky State Police troopers, state police said.
The three men allegedly were trying to steal anhydrous ammonia, an ingredient used in making methamphetamine, said state police spokesman Stu Recke.
Arrested were Keith W. Gant, 28 of Sharon Grove; Kevin D. Dukes, 29; of Elkton and Tony L. McCormick, 31, of Elkton.
Troopers approached the men Friday morning near tanks of ammonia at Elkton Crop Service, Recke said.
One of the three men fired a shot at the troopers before all three ran into a nearby cornfield, Recke said.
Over the course of the next 11 hours, Gant and McCormick were arrested in the cornfield, while Dukes was found at his home, Recke said. No one was injured in the incident or the search, Recke said.
Along with attempted murder, each of the men is charged with tampering with anhydrous ammonia and theft of anhydrous ammonia. All three were in the Christian County Jail on Monday on $500,000 bond.
