EAST ORANGE, N.J. (AP) - Three police officers were suspended after a drug suspect claimed that officers used excessive force in arresting him and later assaulted him at the police station.
The Essex County prosecutor’s office and the East Orange police announced the suspensions Friday evening, but did not identify the officers. Officials at the two offices did not immediately respond to messages seeking comment.
The suspect, Aaron Boyd, 23, of East Orange, was among several arrested Nov. 3. During the arrest, he said his face and arm were injured, and then he was beaten, the prosecutor’s office said.
He was treated at East Orange General Hospital that night and then taken to the Essex County Jail, where he is being held on $2,000 bail.
