Nobody died in alcohol-related crashes in Santa Clara County this holiday season, but injury crashes in the county were up from last year, law enforcement officials reported today.
Police and California Highway Patrol officers reported 25 alcohol-related crashes in the county between Dec. 16 and midnight today, up from 16 last year. But there were no deaths in the crashes, compared with three deaths during the same period last year.
Officers throughout the county arrested 562 people on suspicion of driving under the influence, down from last year’s 645 arrests. San Jose police and CHP officers made more than 250 of those arrests.
In Alameda County, officers arrested 953 drivers, up from last year’s 903. Two fatal crashes, the same number as last year, killed three people in the county. Injury crashes were up to 25 this year, compared with 17 last year.
