Penn. Teens Allegedly Attack Police

WGAL TV News - Harrisburg, Penn.

Six teenagers are under arrest, charged with attacking a police officer early Tuesday morning.

Police said teens threw a rock through the front door of the Italian Village Pizza Shop early Tuesday morning. Once, inside police said the teens stole some beer.

Neighbors called 911 and alerted police to the burglary. Police caught up with teens in nearby alley. When they tried to take the teens into custody, police said they put up a fight.

“They are fighting with full vigor. These are closed-fist blows. These are kicks. They are fighting at street-fighting level,” Police Chief Bill Harvey said.

Officers used pepper spray, but police said the teens continued to resist arrest. As a result, two officers were hurt and two police cruisers were damaged. The officers are expected to recover quickly.

“It’s particularly worrisome to me, because there are so many ways that you can handle things. You can negotiate. You can talk, and you can find reasons and ways to solve problems. Violence is never the answer,” Harvey said.

The teens range in age from 14 to 18, but authorities said they will ask that they be tried as adults.

This is the second time since Friday that teens and police have faced off.
