allegedly pulling gun
[Dearborn, MI]

(DEARBORN, Mich.) -- A police officer in a Detroit suburb shot and killed a shoplifting suspect who allegedly pointed a gun at him, police said.

The shooting occurred Tuesday afternoon at a traffic light on a highway service road. The Detroit Free Press said that the dead man, a Detroit resident, and two other men were suspected of shoplifting at several stores and that police had seen them putting what appeared to be stolen items in their car.

The officer, a 20-year veteran of the Dearborn department, fired as he and other police officers approached the car. The other suspects surrendered without incident.

The Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office is investigating the shooting.
