Plymouth, Ind. (AP) -- Police arrested three people after an explosion and a fire in a suspected methamphetamine lab in northern Indiana.

Three Walkerton residents were in the Marshall County Jail on Thursday on preliminary charges of running an illegal drug lab, possession of a controlled substance, dealing in a controlled substance and maintaining a common nuisance, police said.

Arrested were Phillip Bogard, 37, Joseph E. Cromey, 33, and Sherrie A. Papa, 42, police said.

Bond has not been set and the prosecutor has not filed formal charges, police said.

Walkerton Police Chief Richard Bliley said an explosion Tuesday set a garage on fire in the town, located about 20 miles southwest of South Bend.

Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire. Later they found several items that are commonly used in meth labs including drain cleaner, table salt and coffee filters, Bliley said.

The garage was not destroyed. Police said ingredients used to make the drug are highly combustible, which could have led to the explosion.
