Baton Rouge, La. (AP) -- A Texas man accused of killing his girlfriend and her mother was pulled over for a traffic stop early Wednesday and then shot and killed himself, state police said Wednesday.
Texas authorities said Timothy Robertson had an argument with his girlfriend in Houston Tuesday, grabbed his hunting rifle and opened fire, killing his girlfriend and her mother in front of three small children.
Louisiana State Police received word late Tuesday night that Robertson might be heading for Kentwood in a black Ford pickup truck and that he was armed with a high-powered rifle.
Early Wednesday morning, a trooper pulled over a black pickup for a traffic violation on Louisiana Highway 37, south of Louisiana 64. A shot was fired from within the pickup and the trooper returned fire, then immediately called for backup, the state police news release said.
