CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) -- A speeding car careened off a street during a chase by police, killing two men and injuring the third as the vehicle went airborne and struck two buildings in a fiery crash, police said.

Police spokesman Tetzel Tillery said the names of the victims, both Hispanic males, were not immediately available.

He said the survivor in the 3:10 a.m. crash in east Chattanooga, also identified as a Hispanic man, was taken to a hospital. His condition was not immediately available.

Tillery said investigators were trying to determine if the survivor was driving and why the vehicle was speeding.

He said the chase started when the car traveling at a high rate of speed passed an officer.

He said the car veered off the road and struck an eyeglass center and went airborne as it also struck a restaurant.

“The parties were ejected and the car burst into flames,” Tillery said.
