Utah Officer Proposes Over Police Scanner

by Sam Penrod, KSL-TV News (Utah County, Utah)

So how do you ask your girlfriend if she will marry you? It’s a tough question for most men, but a Utah County lawman found a unique solution because his wife-to-be is a police dispatcher.

The police scanner is usually filled with crimes and emergencies, but for a moment today in Utah County, it was filled with the sound of love and then a big 10-4.

Instead of addresses and 10 codes that we usually hear on the police scanner, today in Utah County, we heard something unusual. A Forest Service officer got on the police channel to ask his girlfriend, a dispatcher in the Utah County Sheriff’s office, if she would marry him.

Jason: “In these three years we have known each other, I hope I have made you as happy as you have me. I hope and pray our happiness will go on forever. Teri, I love you with all my heart, will you please marry me?”

After a long pause, Teri gave her answer.

Teri: “I would absolutely love to marry you!”

Other law enforcement officers then gave their congratulations to the new couple.

The airwaves were tied up for just a minute and then back to official business. By the way, Jason was already in the building when he made his proposal and quickly showed up to the dispatch center with a ring.
