CANTON, Ohio — Authorities in Ohio say a convicted felon accidentally fired a handgun while he was cleaning it, and the bullet hit his downstairs neighbor in the chest.
The (Canton) Repository reports that a 43-year-old Canton man was arrested Tuesday night after a 53-year-old woman living in the apartment below his was shot.
The bullet was removed at a hospital. A Canton police lieutenant tells the newspaper the woman was in stable condition after surgery.
Police say the man wasn’t allowed to have firearms because of a felonious assault conviction. He is being held on $50,000 bond and is expected to appear Wednesday in Canton Municipal Court.
