Cops say woman hid crack in dentures

She was charged with possession of crack cocaine and drug paraphernalia after hiding crack rocks in her dentures at a traffic stop

PUNTA GORDA, Fla. — A Port Charlotte woman was arrested Saturday night on drug -possession charges after authorities said she attempted to hide crack rocks underneath her dentures during a traffic stop, according to the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office.

Kimberly Joyce Maroney, 49, of the 400 block of Barger Road, was charged with possession of crack cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia in connection with the incident.

According to a report, Maroney was a passenger in a vehicle that was seen leaving a known drug house on Scott Street in Punta Gorda when a deputy made a traffic stop.

Maroney was asked to exit the vehicle, at which time she threw a used syringe to the ground, a syringe she would later tell -authorities she had just used to inject crack cocaine. A search of Maroney’s purse turned up a crack pipe and a piece of crack, the report states. The deputy also noticed that Maroney was not opening her mouth and was moving something around inside of her mouth with her tongue.

The report states that Maroney removed her dentures, revealing three large crack rocks, which she took out of her mouth and then handed over to the deputy.

Maroney was arrested and transported to the Charlotte County Jail, where she was released on $3,500 bond. The driver of the truck, Lora A. Whitehead, 25, of the 27000 block of AnnArbor Ave., Harbour Heights, was charged with driving with a suspended license in connection with the incident.

The report states that Whitehead presented a suspended Tennessee driver’s license when pulled over despite currently living in Charlotte County. She was arrested and -transported to the Charlotte County Jail, where she was released on $500 bond.
