VERO BEACH, Fla. — A Florida woman who called 911 to report a medical issue later admitted she dialed the emergency number because she was lonely, police said.

Indian River County sheriff’s deputies said Fleurette French, 64, called 911 March 30 for a medical issue and responders came to her Vero Beach home around 8:10 p.m., TCPalm.com reported Wednesday.

A deputy’s report said French “was in no obvious distress” but “was highly intoxicated.”

A firefighter who arrived on the scene told the deputy “French told him the real reason she called 911 was ‘because she was lonely.’”

The sheriff’s office said French was found to have dialed 911 five times between March 22 and March 30. She was taken to the hospital each time, but was found to be intoxicated and not in any medical distress.

French was arrested on a charge of abuse of 911.
