LAKE FOREST, Ill. — A Lake Forest man, with a blood-alcohol content allegedly three times the legal limit, crashed in River North on Tuesday night and ran into the Rock and Roll McDonald’s parking lot to get away, police said.
When a doctor examined John McDermott after his alleged accident, he was asked if he was taking any daily medications.
“Alcohol,” he allegedly replied. Asked if he was drunk, he said, “No s---,” according to a police report.
McDermott, 43, of the 900 block of Elm Tree Road, was charged with felony aggravated driving while under the influence, driving on a suspended license, reckless driving, leaving the scene of an accident and blowing a stop light, police said.
McDermott allegedly blew a red light and collided with another vehicle at La Salle and Ohio, police said.
The other motorist told police that he got out of his car after the crash and informed McDermott that he blew the red light. McDermott replied, “Yes I did,’' before fleeing on foot, according to a police report.
Officers caught McDermott on the 100 block of West Ohio where he appeared intoxicated and staggered, police said.
McDermott initially denied he was involved in a crash. But McDermott admitted crashing his Audi after he was brought back to the accident and the other driver identified him, according to the report.
