New ‘gallon smashing’ prank has police, grocers annoyed

Teen boys are smashing milk gallons in stores and pretending to slip, then posting the acts to YouTube

PORTADOWN, U.K. — Four youths could end up in hot water over spilt milk at the Asda store in Portadown.

The four friends visited the Edenderry store on Monday night and while they were there carried out in a prank that has led the store to call in the police.

The prank involved the youths stocking up with plastic cartons of milk, throwing them up into the air and then appearing to fake a fall. Upon hitting the ground the containers exploded and left a large pool of milk on the floor.

One of the culprits posted a 13-second video of the incident entitled sorry asda’ on Facebook, tagging his three accomplices in the post.

It’s understood the youths were copying the trend of gallon smashing’, videos of which have attracted millions of views on internet sites like YouTube.

Gallon smashing’ was first carried out by teens in America. It involves someone at a supermarket throwing gallons’ of milk above their head, dropping to the ground pretending to be injured then seeing how other shoppers react.

Since the video of the prank in the Edenderry store was posted on Facebook it has generated 640 Likes’ and 76 comments (as of Thursday morning).

Many found the prank to be hilarious while others said the police should be made aware. Several of the comments were from the youths involved, boasting about their prank.

Asda are aware of the Facebook post which includes the names of the four individuals involved. The store told the Portadown Times they are currently investigating the matter with police.
