CAYUGA COUNTY, N.Y. — A New York State Police trooper rescued a man trapped inside a sinking vehicle at a Cayuga County marina, and the dramatic rescue was captured on body camera video.
Trooper Christopher Cady was dispatched to Cross Lake Marina in the town of Cato at about 2:37 p.m. on Oct. 4 after reports of a vehicle sinking on a boat launch ramp with a man trapped inside, state police said.

Video released by police shows Cady rushing down a dock and jumping into the water, making his way to the vehicle as it sinks. He then uses a window punch to break through the vehicle’s sunroof and help the man out.
A nearby citizen helped Cady pull the man to safety, according to police.
“If not for the quick actions of Trooper Cady and the good Samaritan, this incident may have ended very differently,” state police said.
Police did not release the identity or condition of the rescued man, although on the video he told Cady, “I’m OK.”
