Border Patrol seeks to rehire recently retired agents

The program would allow the retirees to keep receiving their full pensions while also earning a salary

WASHINGTON — U.S. Customs and Border Protection has announced a new opportunity for agents who retired between July 2020 and July 2024 to rejoin the agency as reemployed annuitants.

The initiative is aimed at leveraging the experience of retired personnel to strengthen frontline operations, according to the CBP statement.

“Border Patrol retirees have the knowledge and experience we need to address the challenges ahead,” said Andrea Bright, assistant commissioner for CBP’s Office of Human Resources Management. “…This would provide a unique opportunity to continue their service.”

Eligible annuitants may qualify for a dual compensation waiver, allowing them to collect their full federal retirement benefits while earning a salary. Appointments will be full-time and term-limited, ranging from one to four years, with the possibility of extension based on operational needs.
